Why Ayurveda?

Charaka & Vaghbhata in Sutrasthana define health as:

“Samadosha, samagnischa samadhatumala kriyahaprasannaatmen indriya manaha swasthya ityabhidheeyate”

The body, sensory and motor organs, mind and atma should be in a pleasant state. Such a person is called a healthy person or Swastha.

Ayurveda is an ancient science with vast and multi-faceted knowledge with proven methodologies based on four pillars – physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual. And the equilibrium of all leads to holistic health.

With 5000 years behind it, Ayurveda is the world’s oldest healing system, with its roots in ancient Indian civilisation. Over these years, its methods and principles have been tried, tested and fine-tuned on millions of human beings. More recently, modern science has given us proof of many of its principles. Ayurveda can be thought of as a sister-science to yoga, both were born from the same ancient Indian texts, known as The Vedas.

Ayurveda is the science of life,

It is ageless, inspiring & pure,

It is the balance, wisdom and bliss,

To know yourself and the art of being.

What Are Doshas?

In Ayurveda, we strive for balance between three main forces:

Vata Dosha (Air + Ether)

Pitta Dosha (Fire + Water)

Kapha Dosha (Water + Earth)

We call them ‘Doshas’, and they are driven by the 5 elements: air, fire, water, earth and space.
We all have these three Doshas present in our physical and psychological make-up to some degree, but it is our most dominant Dosha that makes us who we are.
